Overview

Acti-Kare has the lowest investment requirement of any major in-home care franchise. You can be in business for under $33,000. Yet this is a full-support franchisor. Some of its systems are the envy of more costly competitors:

  • Acti-Kare provides your initial team of screened caregiver staff to get you into business quickly.
  • A corporate call center takes inbound calls from your potential clients, giving them pricing and service information and setting up appointments for you.
  • This same call center team makes outbound calls on your behalf too, following up leads and securing meetings.
  • A comprehensive online training and certification program for caregivers is free of charge.
  • The company will even provide leads to get new franchisees started up.
  • A state-of-the-art advertising department gives guidance on all advertising avenues and assists with the custom design of your local ads.
  • The company provides assistance with state licensing, supports you in registering to accept Medicare/Medicaid, VA funding, long-term care insurance and more.
  • Average Sales are $557,463 for franchise businesses open 24 months or longer.

This is a premium set of services, wrapped up in an extremely low-investment package.

Why Choose Us?

Acti-Kare offers a proven home-based model – in most states, no office is needed. This allows franchisees to make as much – or as little – of the opportunity as they have time for. Some franchisees even take a part-time approach. Overheads are held to an absolute minimum.

Another powerful attraction is Acti-Kare’s low franchise fee, between $19,750 to $34,750, depending on territory size. That’s a significant savings. In addition, you don’t need an office or a permanent staff in the Acti-Kare model, so the startup costs are highly affordable.

But the biggest reason to choose Acti-Kare is the support package. Very few in-home care franchises provide a central call center, for instance. The Acti-Kare call center "sells" your potential clients and schedules your enrollment meetings. A sophisticated suite of management/scheduling software for caregivers and clients keeps you in control and tracks all billable hours and payroll. The franchisor helps with marketing materials too, as well as giving you an initial team of caregivers, a set of warm client leads, training materials, a brand, help getting licensed, and on and on.

Acti-Kare does not focus exclusively on senior care. It also offers Family Care services ranging from special-needs children, to prenatal and postnatal care for mothers and babies, to personal injury and surgical recovery care. Regardless of the need, Acti-Kare provides superior services to the whole family in the comfort of their own homes.

Ideal Candidate

The most important quality for an Acti-Kare franchisee is the desire to help others. This is crucial, because make no mistake: in-home care is not an easy business. You will have a great deal of support from the franchisor, but you still have to get out there and represent your services, both to the referral sources and to the clients themselves and their adult children. You have to do that with an unflagging empathy that can’t be faked.

Beyond this, the successful owner will be someone who is good at managing their caregivers; and “managing” does not mean just telling them where to go and what to do. More importantly, it means communicating day-in and day-out that your caregivers’ work is highly valued, and that they themselves are respected. Even more than how much you pay, this human connection is the key to retaining and helping to motivate staff.

Many of the details of your future business are things the franchisor can give you or teach you. But the core of the business, its heart, is always going to be up to you.

And finally, one more thing. Acti-Kare has done its best to hold your up-front investment and overheads down to a rock-bottom minimum. But it’s not enough just to put up $30,000 and then be in business. In-home care takes time to ramp up and gain size. You need to have some savings or a second income to live on while that happens.

History

Acti-Kare was formed in 2007, so it is older than the average in-home care franchise system. It was established by the directors of the Club Z! in-home tutoring company, which has been offering franchises since 1998 and is very successful (with over 380 franchisees). Most of Acti-Kare’s top executives have in fact been with both companies for over a decade – these are some of the most experienced franchise executives you are likely to find.

Training And Support

No prior experience is needed in order to become an Acti-Kare franchisee. The training program is designed to get newcomers up to speed.

The initial training program consists of 10 hours of web-based training materials in a self-paced program. The time to complete is typically 2-4 weeks.

Then, there are 2-3 days of one-on-one “corporate training.” Training is offered at the company’s headquarters in Tampa, Florida, but may also be offered virtually for your convenience.

Following the initial phase of in-person training, you are assigned a dedicated support specialist to assist in completing two additional phases of pre-opening training. This covers topics like rate-setting, advertising and marketing campaigns, caretaker recruitment and staffing, role-playing and setting up back-office functions.

In addition, Acti-Kare has invested into developing its “Acti-Kare Academy” – online training tools for caregivers and staff. Caregivers are assigned video training modules where they can learn about everything from roles and responsibilities of caregivers, to proper body mechanics, nutrition and meal planning, and more. Quizzes ensure knowledge retention, and you are updated on your caregiver’s progress every step of the way.
