History

Back in 1998, Dan Remus and Jef Strauss were both living fast-paced corporate lifestyles that required them to leave their aging Dalmatian, Geni, alone in the house for much of the day. They decided to start a business that would support them financially, while also allowing them more time to spend with her.

After a lot of work, consideration, and planning, Wag N’ Wash opened its doors in 1999 as a self-service dog wash and biscuit bakery with the mission to recognize, promote, and foster the positive impact companion animals have on their owners. The best part? They were able to take Geni to work with them every single day!

Dan and Jef’s small 1,500-square foot store immediately took off and they started looking at other underrepresented sectors of the pet care market, specifically natural pet foods. Dan and Jef could not find a store that satisfied their desire to feed Geni food free from corn, wheat, soy, and artificial preservatives. Based on this unmet need in the pet space, they decided to pioneer the healthy pet food industry as well as add new services to Wag N’ Wash, including full-service grooming.

After the expansion, the Wag N’ Wash brand began to gain awareness in the communities they served, and Dan and Jef started receiving franchise inquiries. They awarded the first Wag N’ Wash franchise in 2006 and have been focused on methodical and strategic national expansion ever since. The goal of Wag N’ Wash franchising is to ensure that pet owners across the country have a place to ‘wash ‘em, feed ‘em, spoil ‘em, and love ‘em!’

Training And Support

Dan and Jef know first hand how difficult it can be to start a business, which is why the Wag N’ Wash Corporate team is dedicated to providing our Franchise Owners with top-of-the-line support with everything they need to make their business a tail-wagging success!

Not sure where to even begin when it comes to owning a pet retail and grooming business? New Franchise Owners receive comprehensive training at Wag University, where they learn the ins and outs of owning a Wag N’ Wash during an intensive, 7-day session at our Colorado headquarters, as well as 10 days’ worth of hands-on training in one of our corporate-owned locations immediately before opening their own store!

Concerned that your support from Corporate will dry up as soon as initial training is complete? Not a chance- the WAG Crew has got your back from training to Opening Day and beyond! Franchise Owners are assigned corporate “Guide Dogs” to provide ongoing support and assistance with virtually every aspect of owning and operating a Wag N’ Wash, not to mention quarterly visits from our Field Support team and an annual visit from the Top Dog himself, Wag N’ Wash President Rob Flanagan!
